The chair of my department (historian of Japan) wants to make up flyers to send to potential majors and generate more interest in the Department. So one of these flyers he wants to make is for "Asian Studies" in our department (which doesn't really exist, but ok, let's give him that for the moment.) What's the slogan he comes up with for the flyers? The slogan that the Chair of my department, a tenured professor who is running my professional life and deciding whether I deserve a raise (apparently I don't, really) decides to put on the flyers we send to potential MSU undergrad majors in History?
Wait for it.....

That's funny. I grew up in northern Idaho (on your left) and I never met a real Asian until 7th grade, and then only because I went to Washington, D.C. for a spelling bee. There was an Indian girl sitting next to me and I was like "hey I live on an Indian reservation" and she was like "um that's not really the kind of Indian I am."
It's funny and, like, horrifying at the same time. Remind me to tell you about the "women, black people, and dogs" comment another senior colleague recently made to a class of 100 students.
I'm actually all about this dude. I'm so into him. I would do a jammy dance with him.
