convertible

The gods of rental cars smiled on my last week, and granted me a convertible. Perhaps it's not really warm enough for a convertible yet, but these cars generally come with heaters powerful enough to cook small turkeys, and it's heat. you can blast that with the top down guilt free -- if anything the engine might run more efficiently. Convertibles tend to have horrible visibility with the top up, which makes it that much more striking when the top comes down. You see everything. The border of the windshield looks like a tiny, tiny little thing. You wonder how you could ever drive looking mainly through that.

This particular model had a powered roof. A very complicated set of movements would happen in back as the roof accordions itself into the trunk. Putting the roof back up feels eerily like being consumed by a giant clam.
