Leitmotifs

So, owing to not having a good workout coat, I was jogging back from the gym to the office last week with just a basic running shirt and pants in 33 degree rainy, windy weather. While crossing a wide street a particularly nasty gust came along, umbrellas inverted, people cowered and hunched up. If you're a runner, you know this kind of moment. Cake's 'Going the Distance' started playing in my head and I charged on.

Now, the 'we should all have theme music' meme is an old one, but don't we have the technology today to make this possible? My first thought was that you could broadcast from your iphone or what have you, but we can actually do one better. Your theme music should broadcast from everyone _else's_ iphone. The volume can be inversely proportional to your distance from the phones. So the crowd in startbucks starts hearing a quiet 'ta-da da-da da-da dudunnanah ta-da da-da da-da' when you're a block away, then blasts out 'DUDUNNANAH' when you finally round the corner.

We can even do better then that. You could have multiple themes depending on what you're doing. Each person would have their love theme, grieving theme, striving under adversity theme, the montage theme, etc, etc. Then picture everyone's theme music blending.

If we can teach our phones to sing opera, we'll really be cooking...
